Rockland, MA--The enforcement of our Bill of Rights and United States Constitution has become income-based. When abusive, politically-connected corporations merge, individuals are in danger of losing more freedoms, rights, and protections. Who benefits most from subsidized housing complexes?
Why is enough never enough for previous and new corporate landlords at Rockland Place Apartments, located in Rockland, Massachusetts? Low-income residents received another notice for request to increase rents on April 7, 2006. If Mass Housing approves this request, low-income tenants are denied any right to dispute rent increases until 2009. While convenient for some, this approval would be another way to disrespect and disempower low-income residents. A fair and understandable request would be for 1-year at a time, from 3 to 5% for 2006. |

 Imagine trying to cross the border from Mexico into the United States in the blistering heat of the summer, a trip that many people don’t survive, and running into an enormous wall that stretches as far as you can see in both directions for miles upon miles. Imagine suddenly becoming a felon, not because you committed a felony, but because the government changed the laws. Imagine getting arrested and spending three years in a federal prison for giving food and clothing to an immigrant. Imagine getting deported. Imagine facing even more racial profiling and harassment from police than you already do because 11 million “criminals” are running loose with the same skin color as you. This will be a reality if Congress passes “The Border Protection, Antiterrorism, and Illegal Immigration Control Act of 2005,” also known as H.R. 4437. As Malena Mayorga, a community organizer for the local immigrant advocacy group Centro Presente, put it: “We’re not going to sit back and be obedient slaves.” |

BU Palestine Culture Awareness March |

 At least 20 BU students and supporters from the activist community joined in a march to raise awareness of Palestinian culture yesterday. We raised the flag of Palestine and strolled along commonwelth ave. thru crowds of students between classes. We will be out again today (thursday) for another march starting at shaws market at noon. Young Jews Support Palestinian Rights, Challenge AIPAC and JCRC by Holding Seder Outside Their Offices |

 On Tuesday, April 11, at 5:00 pm, 20 young Jewish people gathered for a seder (traditional celebration of Passover) outside 126 High Street in Boston, the building that houses the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and Boston's Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC). The group expressed their support for Palestinian human rights and opposition to AIPAC’s and JCRC’s unquestioning support for Israel and its governmental policies. With a banner that read “Passover means liberation for all. Justice for Palestine,” they conveyed the message to the organizations inside and to the media that AIPAC and JCRC do not speak for all Jews. |

 The precedent of compelling drivers to purchase private auto insurance is bad enough, but one can opt out. One doesn't have to drive, they say. The only way to opt out of compulsory health insurance, however, would be to die. |

Concerned citizens "die" at BU biolab site |

 A crowd of people gathered outside the site of BU's proposed biolab late Tuesday afternoon and fell down "dead," faces streaked with fake blood. "We wanted to show the public what an outbreak might look like," said Derek Garcia, a Boston-area resident. The street theater, which was staged by anti-biolab protestors, was intended to draw attention to the dangers of placing a Biosafety Level 4 (BSL4) facility in the middle of a densely-populated urban area. Participants included members of the direct action campaign Operation: Over, people from the Coalition to Stop the Bioterrorism Lab, and members of the Green-Rainbow Party. |
