Romney menaces Muslims, immigrants and international students; Governor calls for wholesale profiling |

 Romney, as well as scores of Republicans and Democrats alike, despite their various orientations, are fast scrambling to forestall an independent multinational class-wide movement especially after Katrina nakedly exposed before the whole world the utter uselessness of the capitalist system.
On September 14, speaking at the right-wing Heritage Foundation’s national office in Washington D.C., Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney declared, “How many individuals are coming to our state and going to those institutions who have come from terrorist-sponsored states?” referring to international students who attend the 120 colleges and universities in Massachusetts. “Do we know where they are? Are we tracking them?” |

Equal marriage activists claim victory |

 Equal marriage proponents celebrated victory last night, one day before Massachusetts’ constitutional convention is to decide whether or not to put the issue of same-sex marriage before the voters as a ballot question. The consensus among the press, the activists, and many others is that it will decide not to.
A long line of players in what has become one of the largest and most powerful political groups in the state stood in front of the crowd giving congratulatory speeches and stern warnings. The event was billed as a candlelight vigil but many took the opportunity to celebrate and build up morale for future trials.

Local unions still working together |

 While Boston labor activists hobnobbed with politicians and civic leaders during the annual Labor Day Breakfast, a contingent from Service Employees International Union Local 615 headed to Providence to join a massive demonstration aimed at organizing janitors.
SEIU President Rocio Saenz fired up a crowd of about 300 labor activists before leading them on a march through downtown Providence and blocking a busy intersection.
Saenz was led away by police officers, but not before she fired up downtown Providence with union slogans and fiery oratory.
“It’s so important that we have an organizing agenda,” Saenz said, explaining SEIU’s drive to unionize janitors. “The unions need to have a stronger voice.”
It was SEUI’s insistence on organizing and expanding membership that ultimately pulled the union away from the AFL-CIO this summer. Along with SEIU, the Teamsters and United Food and Commercial Workers also broke from the nation’s largest federation of unions. |

 AUDIO: A rally on August 25th sparked off a campaign to stop sexual harassment on JP's streets. Teenagers from the Hyde Square Task Force have organized the campaign, which includes not only the rally but also flyering and talking to other teenagers in public school classrooms across the city. The campaign is timely as school starts and students walk to and from school. It also follows the alleged gang rape of a teenaged girl several months ago at the Jackson Square T stop.
