Boston, MA.-April 1, 2010:
About 100 anti-war protesters gathered outside the 60 State St. Building, next to Faneuil Hall, where Pres. Obama was appearing at a $500 a plate Democratic fundraiser.
A long line of "VIPs" waited to go through security to enter the Obama event. This gave the protesters ample opportunity to convey their anti-war message to them through an audibly loud bullhorn. Speakers included Virginia Pratt, representing Womens International League For Peace And Freedom,and an Afghani-American student named Maryam, who spoke about the dire condition of the Afghani people under US occupation. Also present was Medea Benjamin, co-founder of the peace group Code Pink, who was in Boston to participate in several peace events. Medea spoke against Obama's wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and sang anti-war songs with the Raging Grannies who were also present.
Some visiting young students from Wales, UK
joined the protest and held signs and banners, and seemed to enjoy happening upon a peace protest directed at the President. One young student said her brother was being deployed in the British army to Afghanistan, and expressed her concern for his welfare.
Pres. Obama this week declared Massachusetts a federal disaster area due to the heavy rains and flooding recently--it should be noted that perhaps he should declare Iraq and Afghanistan disaster areas from the US waged wars there.
